Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announced Sunday that his party will contest the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections alongside Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP).
Owaisi and AJUP founder—ex-Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir—will detail the alliance at a joint Kolkata press conference on March 25.
Kabir earlier said AJUP aims to fight 182 of the state's 294 seats, with AIMIM contesting about eight. He named three more candidates, bringing the total announced to 18.
Polls unfold in two phases on April 23 and 29, with results on May 4. Ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) under Mamata Banerjee eyes a win over BJP in the 294-seat house, where TMC has ruled since 2011.
