Bihar police SP locks up 5 juniors for negligence, video goes viral

Patna: The Chief Secretary of Bihar asked all senior officers in the state not to take "extreme steps" towards their subordinates.

The directive was issued after a video that went viral showing a police officer in Bihar's Nawada town having locked up five juniors for negligence of duty on September 8.

The Bihar Police Association pressed for action against the the Superintendent of Police for the area, Gaurav Mangla.

Gaurav Mangla denied having committed any wrong-doing, according to reports.

The five cops who were locked up inside the police station are Sub-Inspectors Shatrughan Paswan and Ramrekha Singh; ASIs Santosh Paswan, Sanjay Singh and Rameshwar Uraon.

They were released after two hours of detention around midnight.

SP Mangla, according to NDTV, arrived at the station around 9 pm that day review cases.

He got angry at some officers over negligence and ordered them be put in the lock up.

Mrityunjay Kumar Singh, president of the Bihar Police Association, said the SP had not answered his call and he feared that the official might tamper with the CCTV footage that brought the incident to the light.
