New Delhi: A woman in UP approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection for herself and her family from targeting by Uttar Pradesh Police, certain media organisations and vigilante groups for her conversion to Islam. The 29-year-old also sought the protection of her privacy.
The woman who now lives in Delhi is originally from UP. She alleged that the UP Police, certain media and vigilante groups began targeting her and her family with malicious content for her converting to Islam with her own will.
She wanted the Court's immediate intervention to stop viperous published against her through media on daily basis.
In the plea, the woman claimed she converted to Islam on May 27 with her own will and denied any coercion or threat from anyone. But she alleged that from June 23, she has been threatened by certain small-time newspapers and news portals based out UP of publishing her conversion story.
It has not been just a threat. Content with completely absurd and imaginary appeared on different media platform related to her conversion. She also alleged that one of the persons forcefully took away Rs 20,000 from her.
Besides, she was also informed that the UP police took the custody of her father and they will soon take her to UP from Delhi to force her to file a false case of her forced conversion, the petition reads.
The woman also wanted the Court to provide complete protection from her being taken away by the UP police from the jurisdiction of the Delhi HC by force or coercion and or by way of any other illegal means.
