New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested a Bangladeshi woman, who was smuggling 27 gold bars from her homeland in the North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, NDTV reported.
The seized gold was worth Rs 1.29 crore.
BSF informed that the woman, identified as 34-year-old Manika Dhar from the Chittagong district of Bangladesh, had 27 different types of bars with her. She had them tied around her waist in cloth. They were doing the carrier job for just Rs 2,000, it is learnt.
The Mahila jawans of BSF at the Indian check post received intel about a Bangladeshi smuggler intending to cross the border with gold. Following that, they caught the woman with gold biscuits concealed in her clothes, as mentioned.
Upon interrogation, the woman admitted that she was carrying the gold for an unknown person in West Bengal’s Barasat, and this was her first time doing the job.
BSF handed over the smuggled item as well as the woman to Custom Office Petrapole.
Meanwhile, the South Bengal Frontier of BSF lauded the vigilance of jawans and expressed satisfaction in successfully apprehending smugglers.
