Kochi (Kerala): Customs officials arrested a crew member of Air India flight at Kochi Airport Wednesday for smuggling gold.
The cabin crew member identified as Shafi, a native of Wayanad, was found carrying 1,487 grams of gold.
Shafi, who was working on the Bahrain-Kozhikode-Kochi service, was planning to pass through the green channel wrapping the gold around his hands, under the sleeve of the shirt.
The Customs Preventive Commissionerate arrested him acting on a tip off it received about Shafi bringing gold.
Officials have quizzed him for more information on the smuggling of gold.
In a separate incident at Chennai airport on Wednesday, customs officials arrested two passengers, arrived from Singapore, for carrying gold weighing 6.8 kg valued at ₹ 3.32 crores.
Officials said that the passengers were flying on AI-347 and 6E-52. Chennai Customs tweeted that further investigation is on the incident.
