Guwahati: More than 520 teaching positions reserved for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes categories remain unfilled in government colleges and universities across Assam, the state assembly was informed on Thursday.
Responding to a written query by Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu told the House that a total of 522 reserved teaching posts in state-run higher education institutions are currently vacant. This includes 429 posts in colleges and 93 posts in universities.
The minister further stated that 775 teaching posts in the general category also remain vacant across these institutions.
Providing a category-wise breakup, Pegu said that in government colleges, 297 OBC posts, 46 SC posts and 96 ST posts are lying vacant. In universities, 49 OBC posts, 13 SC posts, and 31 ST posts are yet to be filled.
