Assam student who went missing from train found dead in Andhra Pradesh
Guwahati: A 20-year-old student from Assam, who disappeared during her return journey from Visakhapatnam, was found dead near a railway track in Andhra Pradesh, officials said as an investigation into the incident continued.
The woman was identified as Himashree Boro, a student of B Barooah College in Guwahati. She had gone to Visakhapatnam on September 30 as a member of an Assam dance troupe that had travelled to the city for an event.
Himashree boarded the Dibrugarh Vivek Express (22503) at Visakhapatnam on the night of October 5 to return to Guwahati, her family said. She was travelling in the S2 coach of the train, which was expected to arrive in Guwahati on the morning of October 7.
During the journey, Himashree reportedly telephoned a friend at around 2.39 a.m. on October 6. She told the friend that a group of boys were troubling her, but the call ended suddenly.
Her mobile phone was switched off soon afterwards, prompting the friend to alert the Government Railway Police in Guwahati. A complaint was also registered through railway helpline 139.
Police searched the train and recovered Himashree’s belongings from the S2 coach, but she was not found. Railway authorities later received information about the body of a young woman lying near the tracks at Tikulampur in Andhra Pradesh.
The body was subsequently identified as Himashree’s. After a post-mortem examination, it was handed over to her family.
Police are examining the circumstances in which she left the train and died. No further details about the investigation were immediately available.
