Arrest warrant issued against TMC MP Mahua Moitra in alleged hate speech case

A court in West Bengal's Nadia district on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra after she allegedly failed to comply with repeated summonses requiring her appearance in an alleged hate speech case.

The Krishnagar court also directed authorities to submit an execution report on the arrest warrant by August 28, according to media reports.

The case against Moitra involves allegations that she made remarks insulting women and constituted hate speech. The court had earlier issued a pre-cognisance summons requiring her to appear in connection with the matter.

Noting that Moitra had not appeared before the court despite repeated summonses, the third judicial magistrate at the Krishnagar court ordered the immediate issuance of an arrest warrant against her.
