AP: Woman injects HIV virus into ex-lover’s wife; 4 arrested

Kurnool: Four people, including a woman, were arrested for allegedly injecting an HIV virus into a doctor here, police said on Sunday. The victim is reported to be the wife of the woman’s former lover.

The accused were identified as B. Boya Vasundhara (34) of Kurnool, Konge Jyothi (40), a nurse at a private hospital in Adoni, and her two children, both in their 20s. The arrests were made on January 24, police said.

“After conspiring with three others and staging a road accident, Vasundhara allegedly injected HIV-infected blood into the doctor,” a police official told PTI.

Authorities said the accused obtained HIV-infected blood samples from patients at a government hospital, claiming they were needed for research purposes. The accused reportedly stored the infected blood in a refrigerator before administering it to the victim during the attack.

Police added that Vasundhara, unable to accept that her former lover had married another woman, conspired to separate the couple. She allegedly staged a road accident and injected the victim while pretending to offer help.

The incident occurred on January 9 at around 2:30 pm when the victim, an assistant professor at a private medical college in Kurnool, was returning home on her scooter after lunch. Two people on a motorcycle reportedly rammed her scooter near the KC Canal at Vinayak Ghat, causing her to fall.

Vasundhara then approached her under the pretext of helping and allegedly administered the HIV injection before fleeing when the victim raised an alarm, police said.

The victim’s husband, also a doctor, lodged a complaint at Kurnool III Town Police Station on January 10. A case has been registered under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 272 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
