Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting today to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following recent terror attacks.
This meeting follows a review conducted by the Prime Minister just a day earlier.
Top security officials briefed Shah on the counter-insurgency measures implemented after the recent terror incidents in the Jammu region. A comprehensive review is scheduled for Sunday.
Attendees of the meeting included National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, and the Chiefs of the Army, Intelligence Bureau, and Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW).
The Home Minister also reviewed the preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which begins on June 29. The yatra, a 52-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-meter-high shrine in the southern Himalayas, attracts devotees from across the country starting from the Jammu base camp.
Earlier this week, a unified command meeting was held in Srinagar, followed by a security audit in Jammu. "Some gaps were identified in the current security grid," a senior officer told NDTV. Officials from the Jammu and Kashmir administration are set to brief Shah and the NSA on steps taken to enhance security.
The Director General of Para forces and other officers will also attend the high-level review.
Recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir prompted this meeting. Over the past four days, terrorists targeted four locations in the Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts. On June 9, an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district resulted in nine deaths. In Kathua, security forces killed a suspected Pakistani terrorist on Tuesday, with a second terrorist neutralized in an overnight encounter on Wednesday. A CRPF soldier was also killed in action during these incidents.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister and the NSA reviewed the situation on the ground and later communicated their findings to Shah.
