Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leader and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's comment that he no longer trusts the UP police under the BJP government has triggered controversy amid the arrest of two alleged terrorists in the poll-bound state.
However, his party came out with an explanation after the backlash insisting that the video clip in which Akhilesh made the alleged remarks against the UP police was an edited clip and is being circulated to make a wrong impression that nothing came to his knowledge about the arrest of the terrorists while he made the statement.
The UP government made public the arrest of two terrorists, Minhaz Ahmed and Naseeruddin, who allegedly belonged to the Al Qaeda-supported Ansar Ghazwatul Hind by its Anti-Terror Squad from the outskirts of Lucknow on Sunday.
According to the ATS, the terrorists were planning to unleash terror in several places in Uttar Pradesh by exploding explosives, including suicide attacks. Briefing to media, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that the ATS had seized a huge amount of explosives from their homes in Lucknow.
The DGP further claimed that they were with the plan to execute explosions in many cities in the state before Independence Day.
Akhilesh Yadav's remark prompted BJP leaders to widely share the clip, accusing him of sympathizing with the terrorist activities.
"It is shocking to see former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav declare that he does not trust UP Police and BJP Government. This is the same dynast who claimed that he doesn't trust BJP Vaccine. Whom does he trust? Pakistan Government and its Terrorists?" tweeted BJP leader CT Ravi.
