AISA president Neha Bora detained ahead of ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest
All India Students' Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was detained by Delhi Police near Mandi House on Friday while heading to the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest in the national capital.
Aides of Bora claimed on her X account that she had been taken to an unknown location and did not have her phone with her.
"Neha Bora detained alone, taken to unknown location," a post on her account read.
"Delhi Police must answer: where is Neha?" the message said, describing the incident as “once again, an abduction”.
Bora was detained shortly after CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke was picked up from his residence in Jhandewalan. Both were on their way to participate in the proposed protest.
Police sources told news agency PTI that Dipke was taken to Jafarpur Kalan police station. The location where Bora was taken was not immediately clear.
Earlier, more than 20 Delhi Police personnel visited Dipke’s residence and served him a notice directing him to refrain from actions that could prejudice the rights of citizens, traders, commuters, patients and others.
A senior police officer confirmed the detention of both leaders and said the situation remained peaceful.
“We have detained Dipke and Bora. The situation is very peaceful. Some protesters have reached Connaught Place and will be removed soon. Our main objective is to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement,” the officer said.
Hundreds of protesters, including CJP members and student organisations, gathered at Connaught Place and Mandi House for flash protests, waving the national flag amid heavy police deployment.
Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar visited the DCP New Delhi office at Parliament Street police station to review security arrangements. Police cordoned off Central Park in Connaught Place, while Rapid Action Force personnel and traffic police were deployed across the area. A tear gas vehicle and a Vajra vehicle were also stationed outside the park.
