Actress Rohini new head of committee to address sexual harassment in Tamil film industry

A commission led by actress Rohini will be tasked with addressing allegations of sexual harassment and other infractions in the Tamil cinema industry, actor Vishal, secretary of the South Indian Artistes' Association stated.

An internal complaints body was established by the organisation, also referred to as the Nadigar Sangam, in 2019. After the Hema Committee report was released, the current committee is now being improved, the New Indian Express reported.

Rohini has been urging those who have experienced problems in the industry to come forward and file complaints with the committee. She said at a recent association meeting that rather than going to the media with a complaint about sexual harassment, people should first file one with the committee.

Rohini gave an assurance during the association's 68th meeting that the committee would help victims of violence by setting up channels of communication to hear their complaints and offering legal assistance. She continued by saying that all complaints will be forwarded to the cyber police and that anyone found guilty of sexual assault will face a five-year ban from the industry.
