Chennai: Tamil Nadu film industry’s Ilayathalapathy superstar Vijay launched his political party’s flag and anthem here on Thursday. His party, Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has announced its contesting in the 2026 assembly polls, and the new development is seen as a significant step towards it, NDTV reported.
The TVK flag is maroon in colour with a yellow band in between. It has two tuskers and a flower in the centre.
The flower is said to be “Vagai”, a symbol of victory in Tamil history and literature. The video anthem also signifies victory in the Battlefield.
Releasing the flag, Vijay said that it is not just a party flag but the flag for Tamil Nadu and the state’s victory. He continued by explaining the meaning of the anthem later and announcing the date and venue of his party’s first conference.
Further, he told his party workers to work confidently and celebrate the flag hoisting across the state with due permission.
When the party’s General Secretary Bussy Anand was asked if Vijay would fight alone or join any alliance, he said, "Everything our Thalapathi (Commander) would announce", NDTV quoted. He also said, "People's support is Thalapathi's strength," when asked what Vijay’s strength is in political terms.
NDTV reported that Vijay has a huge follower base, has nurtured his political ambitions for a long time, and has announced that he would contest the 2026 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu. He focused on fighting corruption and providing good governance, as he promised voters.
He has been reaching out to the youth and fresh voters over the past two years with various events like honouring class 12 toppers with cash prizes to. His team has been helping communities with free food, setting up libraries and extending help.
