AAP throws down the gauntlet to BJP in Gujarat polls with Isudan Gadhvi

New Delhi: Throwing the hat in the ring for Gujarat polls, AAP chief Kejriwal announced chief ministerial candidate for the state.

Isudan Gadhvi will lead Am Aadmi party's campaign to wrest the stronghold of the BJP.

Gadhvi, who is the national joint secretary of AAP, belonging to the influential OBC category of the state, will take the huge burden of toppling the BJP's entrenched power in the state.

Thanking AAP leadership and Kejriwal in particular as well as the people of Gujarat for their faith in him, Gadhvi promised to become the servant of the people.

The former TV journalist, who began working with the national TV Doordarshan, had joined the AAP in 2021. In his long career, Gadhvi exposed a 150-crore scam of deforestation in Gujarat's Dang district, according to India Today.

In its over 27 years of power, the ruling BJP for the first time is facing searing heat in its stronghold.

The saffron party won 99 of the 182 seats in the Assembly polls last time in 2017, while the Opposition Congress managed 77 seats.

The entry of AAP into Gujarat, riding on a wave of success first in Delhi and then in Punjab, has given a headache to the BJP in particular.

AAP is in truth aiming at winning national polls two years later for which it looks forward to turn Gujarat as a route.

Although AAP is yet to show its invisible base in the state, the ruling BJP has taken it as a major threat quite unlike the senile Congress.

Polls analysts however say that the contest will be three-cornered with the BJP and the Congress taking on each other, while AAP trying to eat into the votes of both.
