New Delh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has scheduled a legislature party meeting on Sunday to discuss the agenda for the upcoming Delhi Assembly session. The meeting will be held at the AAP headquarters in the national capital at 1 p.m. A key decision on the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly may also be taken during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the AAP took a swipe at Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday, questioning her administrative competence. The party criticized Gupta for mistakenly referring to Delhi Jal Board employees as Public Works Department (PWD) officials in a post on social media platform X, which she later deleted. AAP leaders accused her of lacking knowledge about government departments and questioned her ability to govern effectively.
AAP leader Atishi also sent a letter to CM Rekha Gupta on Saturday, expressing concern over the BJP-led Delhi government’s failure to pass the Rs 2,500 per month scheme for women in its first Cabinet meeting on February 20. "The mothers and sisters of Delhi had believed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guarantee and now they feel cheated," Atishi wrote. She further stated that the AAP legislature party wishes to meet the Chief Minister to discuss the issue.
In preparation for the Assembly session, Gandhi Nagar legislator Arvinder Singh Lovely has been appointed as the pro-tem Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. The first sitting of the new 70-member Assembly will be held on February 24 to elect the Speaker, with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports expected to be presented on February 25.
Vijender Gupta, a three-time legislator and councillor, has been designated by the BJP as the next Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. He confirmed that the Delhi Cabinet approved a three-day legislative session on February 24, 25, and 27 in its first meeting on Thursday.
Among the key discussions in the upcoming session will be the CAG reports, including one on lapses in the now-withdrawn excise policy. These reports have already been received by the office of the outgoing Speaker and are expected to be among the first matters taken up by the new Assembly. The findings are likely to highlight alleged financial mismanagement by the previous AAP-led governments under former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
