A Twitter fight between Shashi Tharoor and Ramdas Athawale led to collateral damage for Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
It all began when the Congress MP from Kerala posted a photo of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman replying to a discussion on the Union Budget 2022, in which Union Minister Ramdas Athawale was pictured behind her. The minister's "stunned and incredulous expression", Tharoor wrote, proves that even the Treasury bench couldn't believe the minister's claims about the economy and her budget.
When tweeting, Tharoor, who is dubbed the Internet's English teacher, made a bunch of spelling errors that Athawale was not inclined to take lightly. Having identified the error, he wrote: "Dear Shashi Tharoor Ji, they say one is bound to make mistakes while making unnecessary claims and statements."
JNU has now entered the fray in response to Tharoor's acknowledgment of his mistake. Taking a swipe at the new vice-chancellor's press release that recently made headlines for grammatical errors, Tharoor said: "Careless typing is a bigger sin than bad English! But while you are on a roll, there's someone at JNU who could benefit from your tuition."
