7 people including chemistry student arrested in TN for cooking meth

Chennai: Police in Chennai arrested seven people including college students involved in manufacturing of highly addictive drug, methamphetamine.

The group involving five engineering graduates and a postgraduate student of Chemistry studying at a prestigious college in Chennai set up a secret laboratory in the city, according to NDTV.

The chemistry student was also a gold medallist in his Bachelor of Science course from another institution.

When this group started out peddling small quantities of drug, the idea of manufacturing the drug themselves struck them.

They did not wait to bring in to the group the chemistry student and started to procure required chemicals for the manufacturing.

One of the arrested got money from his parents convincing them that he was going to open a café.

‘His parents had borrowed money to help him, thinking he was aspiring to start a business,’ a police officer was quoted as saying.

The police raided their laboratory and recovered 245 grams of methamphetamine, 2 laptops, and 7 mobile phones.

Alongside arresting seven men, the police are now looking for two more men, Arun Kumar and Karthik, who are allegedly involved in the drug trade.
