2005 Kalamassery bus burning: NIA court convicts 3

Kochi: A Special NIA court in Kochi convicted three accused individuals in the Kalamassery bus burning case on Wednesday, PTI reported.

NIA said that Thadiyantavidatha Nazeer, Sabir Buhari and Thajudin were convicted by the court on July 27 under various offences of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and UA (P) Act for causing damage to a Tamil Nadu government bus plying between Ernakulam and Salem in support of their demand for the release of Abdul Nasar Madani, Chairman of PDP, who was detained in Coimbatore Jail in 2005.

On August 1, the punishment will be pronounced.

NIA said in its statement that the probe into the accused people unfolded a criminal conspiracy on the first week of September 2005 to wage war, strike terror and damage government property as retaliation to Abdul Nasar Madani's continuous detention.

NIA said that on September 8, 2005, the accused people gathered at Aluva Masjid and prepared their plan to set fire to a Tamil Nadu government-owned bus at the behest of accused Majid Parambai and Sufia Madani.

After the probe, NIA filed a charge sheet against 13 accused on December 17, 2010, in the case.
