Kochi: The controversy engulfing the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has escalated into a wider crisis, with multiple actors publicly questioning the organisation’s leadership, internal functioning and response to complaints of harassment and misconduct. The row, triggered by the resignation of actor Ansiba Hassan from the executive committee, has exposed deep divisions within the influential film body and intensified calls for a leadership overhaul.
Ansiba’s resignation brought the simmering tensions into the open. The actor alleged that she faced sustained hostility within the organisation and accused actor Tiny Tom of spreading defamatory allegations about her, including communal slurs and rumours targeting her personal life. She also claimed that an executive member had filed a false police complaint against her and alleged that the organisation’s top leadership failed to support her despite being aware of her grievances. Although AMMA initially attributed her resignation to professional commitments and personal reasons, the executive committee has since decided to hear her complaints.
The controversy widened further after actor Neena Kurup filed a complaint against Tiny Tom, accusing him of using abusive language and behaving inappropriately during AMMA’s family gathering held in February 2026. The emergence of a second complaint against the same individual has added to concerns over how complaints within the organisation are being handled.
Actor Mala Parvathy joined the criticism by accusing the leadership of operating without transparency and keeping members uninformed about major developments. She alleged that communication with members had virtually ceased after the elections and claimed that differences between president Swetha Menon and general secretary Kukku Parameswaran had created rival power centres within the organisation. She argued that the current leadership had lost the confidence of many members.
Veteran actor Ponnamma Babu also demanded that the present leadership step down, warning that continued infighting and factional rivalry could further damage AMMA’s credibility. As allegations mount and public criticism intensifies, the organisation faces one of the most serious internal crises in its recent history.
