Shah Rukh Khan launched a landmark real estate development named Shahrukhz Danube at a grand event in Mumbai.
The project, created by the Dubai-based Danube Group, marks the first time a tower has been named after the Bollywood actor.
SRK attended the unveiling alongside Rizwan Sajan, the founder and chairman of the Danube Group. The event was held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.
Khan said that the launch had to be held in India because it mattered to Sajan. He explained that he had wanted the event to take place there since it was his home, and that the aim was to improve people’s lives. He added that once the project began to move forward, he hoped people would see their lives grow beautifully and exponentially, as they deserved.
The actor spoke emotionally about how proud his mother would have been of the moment, saying she would have been very happy and that it was a great honour.
He added that when his children visited, he would show them his name on the building. He mentioned that he had reviewed all the details of the project over the previous two months and described it as state-of-the-art yet affordable. He said it would serve as both a milestone and an inspiration for people beginning their lives in Dubai.
The evening also saw Shah Rukh delight the crowd with several iconic moments.
He performed his signature pose on stage and recreated his famous “Don” walk. He then delivered the memorable Om Shanti Om dialogue: “Itni shiddat se mein ne tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai, ki har zarre ne mujhe tumse milane ki saazish ki hai. Aaj aap sabne mujhe meri chaht se mila diya. Thanks, thanks very much.”
He later danced to Chaiyaa Chaiyya with Farah Khan and Rizwan Sajan, energising the audience.
The project itself will take around three to four years to complete and will feature 56 floors. The tower will include a statue of Shah Rukh Khan at the entrance, depicting his well-known arms-outstretched pose for visitors to take photographs.
SRK explained what attracted him to the project, saying that when Rizwan described the idea of creating a building for people who arrive in Dubai with dreams of finding homes and establishing their businesses, he felt that being part of such an effort – and serving as an inspiration – would be the greatest gift.
