Samantha Ruth Prabhu astounded fans by repurposing her wedding gown into a striking black outfit for her appearance at the Elle Sustainability Awards.
Designer Krésha Bajaj unveiled the new creation with the caption, “There are always new memories to be made. There are always new paths to walk. There are always new stories to tell. We loved working with Samantha, our muse, to help her create a new memory, and tell another story. Beauty is forever. And it can take on a new form every day. The tulle from the wedding gown underwent a transformation, being dyed nude and black while retaining the boning structure.
Responding to a comment, the designer’s official handle stated, “The center stone on the flowers were changed from clear to black and added in many layers to peekaboo along the slit. The can part and remaining flowers that weren’t used are becoming part of something else! So almost the entire outfit has been repurposed with very little wastage.”
Sharing pictures in the revamped outfit on her Instagram, Samantha Ruth expressed, “Originally crafted by my good friend Kresha Bajaj, wearing it reimagined this way evokes a range of emotions."
She further wrote, "This dress has always been special, but now it symbolizes much more. We often tend to assign specific ideas or notions to our cherished possessions, rather than recognizing their true value, which often surpasses our initial perceptions. It can hold varied meaning and purposes, exemplifying the essence of sustainability: understanding the value of our possessions, our ideas beyond their conventional definitions."
The repurposed ensemble garnered immense praise from fans, with many drawing comparisons to Princess Diana’s iconic revenge dress. Some even likened Samantha Ruth’s look to that of Marilyn Monroe.
Samantha had donned a white, off-shoulder gown with a flowing skirt at her wedding to Naga Chaitanya in 2017. However, the couple announced their separation in 2021.
