Lucknow: An FIR was filed in the Hazratganj police station against Ali Abbas Zafar and Gourav Solanki who directed the Amazon Prime show 'Tandav', alleging that it promoted "religious enmity", "defilement of worship" and was a threat to the sovereignty and security of India. The FiR also names Aparna Purohit, the head of the original content division in Amazon Prime India, and producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra.
As BJP leaders allege that the show mocked the Hindu god Shiva and was "anti Dalit", lead actor Saif Ali Khan has also been granted police protection around his house, with servants being seen moving household objects under their supervision. On Sunday, BJP leader Ram Kadar filed a complaint in the Ghatkopar station alleging that the show hurt Hindu sentiments.
"I have decided to write a letter to Union Minister Prakash Javadekar regarding this issue and will also mention that all the Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms must be brought under censorship," he was quoted as saying.
The same call for censorship of OTT platforms has been echoed on Twitter with many tweeting to Minister Prakash Javadekar for the same purpose. Actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub has also been asked to apologise for the controversial scene.
