Chennai: Unverified reports are circulating the media space claiming that actor-director couple Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan registered their marriage six years ago, which they claimed in an affidavit submitted six years ago, IANS reported.
The Tamil cinema's celebrity couple, who became parents recently, is facing a probe for violating surrogacy laws for their two newborn baby boys. The circulating reports claim that in the affidavit submitted to the Tamil Nadu Health Department, the couple stated that the surrogate mother who gave birth to the children was a relative of Nayanthara and that she was based out of Dubai.
The couple's marriage on June 9 had made headlines earlier this year, and they announced the birth of their children on October 9. This has caused widespread doubts since the condition for a couple to avail of surrogacy is that they must have been married for five years.
IANS reports that the fresh reports, if found factual, are bound to answer a lot of questions that were raised at the time of the birth of the twins.
Since January this year, surrogacy has been made illegal in India, barring some exceptions. The Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian had recently said that the state government would seek an explanation from the celebrity couple on the matter.
It was Vignesh who took to Twitter announcing the couple had become parents.
"Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with twin baby boys," he wrote and posted himself with Nayanthara with the feet of their twins.
