Pathaan box office: First Bollywood film to gross over Rs 100 crore on day one

Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan's comeback to theatres has been marked with Rs 100 crore on the first day. It has also become the first Bollywood film to do so not only in India but also worldwide.

The presale had set the tone for a blockbuster but the opening day surpassed expectations. In India, the film had the biggest opening day ever with Rs 53 crore. It earned Rs 55 crore including the Tamil and Telugu language releases. The second day is expected to be even bigger considering it is a holiday. This means, Pathaan's domestic box office collection will have crossed the hundred crore milestone in just two days.

"Pathaan has recorded a phenomenal opening day at the box office as it takes a Rs 50-51 crore net collection in its Hindi version, as per early estimates," said a report by Box Office India. "Pathaan at national chains. Day 1 Update: 8.15 pm. PVR: 11.40 cr, INOX: 8.75 cr, Cinepolis 4.90 cr, Total: Rs 25.05 cr. SUPERB. Note: Better than War [Rs 19.67 cr], TOH [Rs 18 cr] and KGF [Rs 22.15 cr] - *entire day* numbers at multiplex chains," tweeted analyst Taran Adarsh.

Overseas, the film made around Rs 36 crore on day one. In North America, the spy thriller made over $1.5 million, and the Gulf region made a contribution of Rs 1 million.

Taran Adarsh had said Pathaan will revive Bollywood and mark the beginning of a fantastic 2023 for the film industry. "The film is going to take a historic start at the box office with opening day collections of Rs 45-50 crore. The box office revival will begin with Pathaan, especially looking at its advance booking, which is very rare. It is a great start to 2023 despite being a working day."
