NewJeans tops K-pop girl group popularity rankings, beats BLACKPINK

Seoul: K-pop has risen in popularity considerably in the past decade and girl groups are known for their fashion statements and infectious energy on top of their performances.

According to the data collected from December 8, 2022, to January 8, 2023, NewJeans has topped in terms of popularity. Composed of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, it is the most talked about debut of 2022. The eponymous mini-album consisting of four songs received rave reviews. In December, they released a track named Ditto followed by OMG in January. Both tracks helped them to top the popularity rankings.

The other 10 girl groups on the list are a mix of 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation teams. BLACKPINK, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, TWICE, Girls’ Generation, (G)I-DLE, Red Velvet, aespa, and Oh My Girl have not lost their popularity in the past few months.

BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa have been moving around the world in the past few months. They have become bigger than ever in the past few months and the next quartet is anticipated to be eventful for them with a possibility of headlining Coachella in 2023.

IVE impressed their fans with 'Narcissistic, my god, I love it' in 2022 along with their edgy fashion. LE SSERAFIM bagged the fourth spot ‘ANTIFRAGILE’ which had a visually pleasing performance and the girls displayed incredible synchronisation during promotions.

MAMAMOO, Apink, LOONA, ITZY, fromis_9, cignature, Girl’s Day, WJSN, Kep1er, Brave Girls, STAYC, EXID, APRIL, MOMOLAND, Dreamcatcher, woo!ah!, NMIXX, LABOUM, Ladies’ Code, Brown Eyed Girls have ranked from positions 11 to 30.
