Mani Ratnam, Vikram slapped with legal notice for misrepresenting the Cholas

Mani Ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan is in the last leg of its post-production. The movie, which is deemed to be the magnum opus about the larger-than-life history of Cholas, is getting ready for a grand worldwide release on September 30.

As the teaser of the film is making waves on social media, a new problem has brewed. A court notice has been slapped against Mani Ratnam and Chiyaan Vikram for allegedly misrepresenting the Cholas. Ponniyin Selvan, based on the film of the same name, follows the rise of the Chola dynasty.

Mani Ratnam and Chiyaan Vikram received a court notice from a lawyer named Selvam. In his petition, he pointed out that Aditya Karikalan (played by Vikram) doesn't have a tilak on his forehead. But, the poster of Vikram from Ponniyin Selvan shows a tilak. Selvam feels that the Cholas could be misrepresented in the film. Hence, he demanded a special screening of the film ahead of its release to analyze if the makers had distorted historical facts in the film.

Neither Mani Ratnam nor Vikram has responded to the notice as of now.

As reported earlier, Ponniyin Selvan will be released in two parts. The first part is gearing up for a grand release in September.

The film will have a pan-India release in five languages.

The star-studded cast includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi in lead roles. Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi will be seen in important roles. Composer AR Rahman scored the tunes.
