Malayalam actor, Maheshinte Prathikaram fame Harish Pengan passes away

Kochi: Malayalam actor Harish Pengan passed away on Tuesday, May 30, at a hospital in Kochi after succumbing to a long-standing liver-related illness. Harish, known for his exceptional performances in movies like "Maheshinte Prathikaram," "Jan.E.Man," and the upcoming superhero flick "Minnal Murali," had garnered a dedicated fan following in the industry.

He was admitted to the hospital early this month after developing a severe stomach ache, which was found to be a liver disease and urgent transplantation was advised by the doctors. Though his twin sister Sreeja volunteered to be the donor, the surgery and further treatment required about Rs 35 to 40 lakh.

News of Harish's condition spread rapidly, with friends and colleagues from the film fraternity rallying together to support his treatment financially.

One of his closest collaborators, director Dileesh Pothan, took to social media to appeal for help, sharing that he had visited Harish in the intensive care unit. Dileesh expressed his concern, mentioning that Harish was battling pneumonia and fighting for his life.

However, despite the optimistic hopes surrounding the transplant, Harish's health deteriorated in the days that followed. The medical team determined that an ongoing stomach infection needed to be addressed and healed before the surgery could take place. Unfortunately, Harish's condition worsened, and despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his illness, leaving behind a void in the industry.

Harish Pengan will be remembered for his remarkable portrayal of memorable characters, often infused with humour. In the critically acclaimed film "Maheshinte Prathikaram," he brought to life the endearing village resident known for engaging in long-distance telephone confrontations. In "Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey," he played the character who sells Darshana's chicken farm, providing an unexpected solution during a challenging situation.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences and hailed the late actor as someone who was known for his grounded and relatable characters. The Chief Minister emphasized that even in smaller roles, Harish managed to leave a lasting impression on the minds of viewers.
