James Cameron dismisses rumours about making OceanGate film

Los Angeles: Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron, known for making the iconic film Titanic, has put an end to rumours surrounding his alleged participation in an OceanGate film.

Despite typically refraining from responding to "offensive rumours," Cameron broke his silence on the matter and clarified his stance. The Titanic expert dismissed speculations about his involvement in the development of an OceanGate film and said, "I don't respond to offensive rumours in the media usually, but I need to now. I'm not in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be," he shared on Instagram.

The rumours emerged following the implosion of the OceanGate sub during a dive to the Titanic wreck, resulting in the loss of all five individuals on board. The Titan sub was reported missing on June 18, and the subsequent discovery of its implosion marked the end of a dramatic and widely followed rescue operation. James Cameron had previously provided extensive commentary on the incident.

As an experienced explorer and a leading authority on the Titanic, Cameron expressed his concerns about the safety of the hull design used in the OceanGate sub. Reflecting on the accident, he said, "I thought it was a horrible idea. I wish I'd spoken up, but I assumed somebody was smarter than me, you know, because I never experimented with that technology, but it just sounded bad on its face," Cameron told Reuters.

He also drew parallels between the sinking of the Titanic and the implosion of the Titan sub, highlighting the disregard for warnings in both instances and their occurrence at the same location. The acclaimed director expressed his shock at the similarities between the two incidents.
