Mumbai: Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra has unveiled the first-look cover of a forthcoming biography on legendary Indian actor Sridevi, coinciding with the late star’s birth anniversary. Titled Empress: The Definitive Biography of Sridevi, the book has already sparked considerable curiosity among film enthusiasts and readers.
Chopra shared the cover on X, expressing her admiration for Sridevi and highlighting the enduring impact of the actor’s legacy. The biography is written by noted author Dheeraj U. Kumar and will be published by Westland Books. The project was first announced in 2023.
The book also features a special note by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who describes Sridevi as a symbol of extraordinary talent. It is expected to offer an extensive account of her remarkable career, from her beginnings as a child artiste to her rise as one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated female superstars.
Sridevi entered films at just four years old, making her screen debut as a child artiste in the 1967 Tamil film Kandhan Karunai. She later made her mark in Hindi cinema with Rani Mera Naam in 1972. Her performances in a succession of commercially successful films established her as one of the industry’s most powerful and versatile leading actors.
She married filmmaker Boney Kapoor in 1996 and had two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, both of whom have followed her into acting.
Recognised with the Padma Shri in 2013 for her contribution to Indian cinema, Sridevi died in 2018 after accidentally drowning in a bathtub. Empress promises to revisit the extraordinary journey and lasting legacy of an icon whose influence continues to loom large over Indian cinema.
