Indians didn’t understand our impact on global fashion industry, says Sonam Kapoor

Bollywood actress and fashionista Sonam Kapoor recently shed light on India's impact on the global fashion landscape.

Since her debut in the film industry in 2007, Kapoor has not only showcased her acting talent but has also been an influential figure in the fashion world, setting trends and representing India's fashion heritage on a global scale.

Acknowledging her role as a representative of India in international fashion circuits, Kapoor highlighted the evolving perception of India's contribution to the global fashion narrative.

She said, "I think the West didn’t understand the power of our impact in this part of the world before. We are developing nations, but that is slowly changing, and we, as people here, have our growing voices as individuals and spending power as clients, making it difficult to be ignored anymore."

Kapoor expressed her commitment to showcasing Indian and South Asian designers at global events, emphasising the rich cultural diversity and heritage of India. "Whenever I represent India, I represent the diversity, resilience, and coexistence that the country enjoys. The fact that we have such a strong cultural heritage and ancient civilization means that whatever is made in India has great value," she elaborated.

The renowned actress highlighted India's diverse cultural contributions, ranging from yoga and spirituality to music, artisanal craftsmanship, jewellery, and embroidery. Kapoor underscored India's significance as a multicultural hub where people from various faiths coexist harmoniously, a value she aims to convey when representing the country.

In September of this year, Sonam Kapoor graced the Business of Fashion 500 (BoF 500) gala in Paris, an event that celebrates influential figures in the global fashion industry.

Attending in a stunning white gown with intricate coral details, Kapoor shared the spotlight with prominent personalities like Emily Ratajkowski, Troye Sivan, Florence Pugh, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Naomi Campbell, Karol G, Jared Leto, and others. She was photographed alongside American singer Usher, adding to the glamour of the star-studded event.
