Los Angeles: Author of the Game of Thrones book series George R.R. Martin said that some of the potential spin-offs have been shelved by HBO due to the uncertainty resulting from Warner Bros' merger with Discovery Media.
He wrote on his official blog that a couple of the projects have been shelved but he does not think they are dead. "You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf." He added that some of those projects are moving faster than others and it is always the case with development. "None have been greenlit yet, though we are hoping maybe soon. All the changes at HBO Max have impacted us, certainly."
The company after the merger is now known as Warner Bros Discovery. It is now combining the streaming catalogues of Discovery+ and HBO Max.
After the eight-season-long run of the original series Game of Thrones, there were talks of several spinoffs. Season one of House of the Dragon, a prequel to GoT, was created by Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. It told the story of the House Targaryen during their reign in Westeros.
One of the most anticipated spin-offs was a Jon Snow-centred show starring Kit Harrington. Martin also endorsed the Tales of Dunk and Egg series based on the life of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen. Another project 'The Sea Snake' has been pitched on Corlys Velaryon and 10,000 Ships, which would focus on Princess Nymeria. The author is also thinking of three animated series.
Martin's new blog confirmed that House of the Dragon will get a season 2. However, his readers are excited to hear that he is still working on the highly anticipated novel The Winds of Winter.
