The shooting of Malayalam film 'Uru' helmed by a former expatriate journalist which talks about the unwavering relationship between Kerala and the Gulf has been completed.
Directed by EM Ashraf who has worked in the field of television in UAE, the film tells the story of the relationship between head craftsman Sreedharan and Rashid who arrives in Beypore as the representative of an Arab to oversee the production of his Uru, wooden boats.
Mamukoya will play the lead role of Sreedharan in the film, based in Beypore, where commercial and luxury wooden boats are being made for an Arab sponsor in the Gulf.
Actor Hassan Al Salman from Saudi Arabia also plays a major role in the film.
Ashraf said that the film, which shows various aspects of Uru making, also depicts the life crisis of expatriates returning home. The film was shot in Beypore and Mahe and also starred several craftsmen. The cast also includes Manju Patros, Albert Alex, Anil Baby, Ajay Kallayi, Arjun, Rajendran Thayatt, Obaid Mohsin, Geetika Girish, Srivani Santosh, Baiju Bhaskar and PK Zahir.
Prabha Varma composed the song and Kamal Prashant composed the music. Sreekumar Perumbadavam has done the cinematography while Hari Nair has handled the editing. Produced by expatriate businessman Mansoor Pallur under the banner of Sam Productions, the film will be released soon on OTT.
Ashraf who has written and directed the short film Bonjour Mayyazhi based on novelist M. Mukundan's novel is also the author of several books, including a biography of Vaikom Muhammed Basheer. Bonjour Mayyazhi has won three state awards, including the best director.
