Drishyam 3: writer offered bribes to leak climax, rewrote 100+ drafts?
Mumbai: Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam 3: The Conclusion is making a strong impact at the box office, grossing over Rs 272 crore worldwide in just three days since its release. As the film’s twists, storyline and much-discussed climax fuel conversations among moviegoers, co-writer Aamil Kian Khan has revealed the extraordinary effort that went into crafting its conclusion.
In an interview with the Free Press Journal, Aamil said the writing team went through more than 100 drafts before settling on the final version. The scripts were stored in multiple folders on computers, with files carrying increasingly desperate names as successive versions were rewritten.
The makers also went to extraordinary lengths to keep the climax under wraps. Director Abhishek Pathak reportedly handled the secret much like protagonist Vijay Salgaonkar would, ensuring that most members of the crew remained unaware of the film’s ending. Different departments were given only the information necessary for their respective work, with some teams shooting scenes without knowing their larger purpose.
The secrecy became so intense that several actors, crew members, friends and even Aamil’s relatives allegedly offered him money in exchange for details about the climax. He maintained his commitment to the producers and refused to reveal the secret.
Aamil also highlighted the pressure created by the success of the earlier films. Unlike the first instalment, audiences now know Vijay Salgaonkar’s methods and strategies, making it increasingly difficult to surprise them while preserving the franchise’s originality and essence.
Directed by Pathak, Drishyam 3 stars Devgn alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran, Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj. Aamil, Parvez Sheikh and Pathak jointly wrote the screenplay.
