Mumbai: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has officially confirmed that he is reuniting with director Jeethu Joseph for ‘Drishyam 3’. Following the massive success of ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Drishyam 2’, the franchise is set to continue, with anticipation running high among fans and industry insiders.

On Thursday, Mohanlal announced the news by sharing a photo with director Jeethu Joseph and producer Antony Perumbavoor. Taking to social media, he wrote, "The Past Never Stays Silent. Drishyam 3 Confirmed! #Drishyam3". The announcement quickly went viral, with fans expressing excitement over the next chapter of Georgekutty’s gripping story.

‘Drishyam’, released in 2013, was a groundbreaking crime thriller written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. Starring Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Roshan Basheer, and Neeraj Madhav, the film was produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas.

The film followed the intense struggle of Georgekutty and his family as they became suspects in the disappearance of Varun Prabhakar, the son of IG Geetha Prabhakar. The story’s intricate plot, emotional depth, and suspenseful narrative captivated audiences, making it a milestone in Indian cinema.

‘Drishyam’ was a box-office juggernaut, running in theatres for over 150 days. It also became the longest-running film in the UAE, screening for 125 days. The film remained the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time until 2016, when it was surpassed by ‘Pulimurugan’. It stayed in the top 10 highest-grossing Malayalam films for a decade, only recently being dethroned by Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s latest hit, ‘Neru’.

The film’s success led to multiple remakes across languages. The Hindi adaptation, starring Ajay Devgn, was a massive hit. Additionally, the story was remade in Kannada as ‘Drishya’ (2014), Telugu as ‘Drushyam’ (2014), Tamil as ‘Papanasam’ (2015), and Hindi as ‘Drishyam’ (2015). It also gained international recognition, with remakes in Sinhala as ‘Dharmayuddhaya’ and Chinese as ‘Sheep Without a Shepherd’. Plans were announced for adaptations in Indonesian and Korean, making ‘Drishyam’ the first Indian film to be remade in both languages.

A sequel, ‘Drishyam 2’, was released in 2021, continuing the story of Georgekutty and his family. With ‘Drishyam 3’ now officially in the works, fans eagerly await the next thrilling installment in the franchise.
