Divya Khossla has accused Alia Bhatt of manipulating the box office earnings for her latest film, Jigra, by allegedly purchasing tickets herself to inflate the movie's reported success.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Divya shared a photo of an empty theatre at Citi Mall PVR, where she claimed to have attended a screening of Jigra. In her post, Divya wrote, "The theatre was completely empty... and this is happening everywhere."
She further criticized Alia, stating, "#Aliabhatt really has a lot of #Jigra (courage)... bought tickets herself and announced fake collections."
Divya also questioned why the media remained silent on the matter, adding hashtags like "#truthoverlies" and "#weshouldnotfooltheaudience."
This controversy follows comparisons between Divya's film Savi and Alia Bhatt's Jigra.
While Savi revolves around a housewife attempting to break her husband out of prison, Jigr* features Alia's character plotting a jailbreak to save her brother.
Despite the hype, Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, had a slow start at the box office, collecting Rs 4.25 crore nett on its opening day. However, the film's Telugu version fared poorly, earning only Rs 5 lakh, with reports of near-zero occupancy in some regions.
