Chetan Bhagat criticised for saying Uorfi Javed's photos 'distracting youths'

New Delhi: Author Chetan Bhagat's well-meaning advice to young people in the country to focus on their career rather than waste time on Instagram has left him facing criticism on social media.

Speaking at a literary event earlier, the bestselling author of "2 states" brought up the name of reality TV actor Uorfi Javed, adding that people today spend a lot time on Instgram.

Bhagat pinned down on phone as a great distraction for youth, adding that boys spend hours watching Instagram Reels. The author went on saying that Uorfi Javed was known to all and quipped whether her photos got any relevance to their exams and job interviews.

The author was quoted as saying that youths on one side work at Kargil protecting the nation, on another side many spent time watching Uorfi Javed's photos.

Uorfi Javed came down on the author, saying that men like Bhagat always blame the women rather than accepting their own shortcomings.

"Stop promoting rape culture you sickos out there. Blaming women's clothes for the behaviour of men is so 80s Mr Chetan Bhagat," she said in an Instagram story.

Javed also shared screeshots of Bhagat's WhatsApp messages leaked during the #MeToo movement in 2018.

"I told guys to focus on fitness and their career and not waste their time on Instagram. Apparently that's not ok! So they cut my statement, say it out of context, the headline with adding things I never said and do a click-bait piece with ageism thrown in too. Of course," Bhagat was quoted by NDTV as saying.
