BTS' leader Kim Nam-joon, popularly known as RM, was officially appointed as the public relations ambassador for The Ministry of National Defense in South Korea on Thursday.
RM will now represent the Ministry's 'Killed in Action Recovery & Identification' organization, also known as MAKRI. The official pictures of the ceremony have also surfaced online.
On May 31, BTS's agency BigHit Music announced that the leader of the K-pop group was set to be officially appointed as the public relations ambassador of MAKRI on June 1 KST.
MAKRI serves to recover the remains of war heroes from the Korean War to return to their families. As the public relations ambassador, RM will be promoting the organization and its projects.
The BTS fans also known as ARMYs expressed their happiness and excitement over this news on Twitter.
One of them wrote, “I'm in tears. I am so proud of him.” “This ambassadorship suits him so well. RM is articulate and knowledgeable. I m incredibly proud of him and not surprised at all that he was offered this mission. BTS continues to make their fans so proud, the way they conduct themselves is (love emoji)," added another one.
One more tweeted, “I just have a feeling Joon is going to run for president in the future, like I see it for him.”
BTS will be celebrating their 10th debut anniversary this year by dropping their digital single Take Two.
This is BTS’ second release together post announcing the hiatus from group activities. Earlier this year, they released an OST titled The Planet for a Korean animation movie.
Recently, another BTS band member, J-Hope was promoted as an assistant instructor in the army.
RM released his solo album, Indigo, last year and is currently working on other music projects as well.
