Attack on Saif Ali Khan: nurse identifies accused
Mumbai: A staff nurse who was the complainant and first witness in the January 2025 attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has recounted the terrifying moments when an intruder allegedly targeted the actor’s younger son Jeh at their Bandra residence. The 59-year-old testified in court as the trial began on Friday.
The incident took place around 2 am on January 15, 2025. The nurse told the court that she woke to a noise and initially assumed Kareena Kapoor had entered the bathroom when she noticed the light was on. When she woke again and sensed something was wrong, she saw a man wearing a cap moving towards Jeh’s bed.
Fearing for the child’s safety, she attempted to pick him up, but the intruder attacked her with a hacksaw blade. According to her police statement, the assailant demanded a large sum of money, making her realise that it was a robbery attempt.
During an identification procedure at the court on Friday, the nurse identified 31-year-old Mohammad Shariful as the man who had entered the family’s luxury apartment.
Saif Ali Khan rushed towards the commotion and was stabbed by the intruder. The actor sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised. The accused fled the scene but was arrested by Mumbai Police after a days-long search.
Investigators believe the break-in was part of a planned robbery targeting a substantial amount of money at the actor’s home. The trial is underway, and the nurse’s testimony is expected to be significant in the case.
