Kochi: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has expanded disciplinary proceedings within its leadership ranks by issuing show-cause notices to actors Tini Tom, Lakshmi Priya and Joy Mathew, accusing them of making public statements that allegedly damaged the organisation’s image.
The decision was taken at a meeting of AMMA’s executive committee, which resolved to seek explanations from the three members. AMMA leadership clarified that notices have, for now, been issued only to those serving on the executive committee, while no decision has been taken regarding other members.
The move comes shortly after actress Ansiba Hassan was served a show-cause notice over allegations that her public remarks had adversely affected the organisation’s functioning and violated provisions of its bylaws. She was directed to submit a written explanation by June 17.
Ansiba, however, responded before the deadline, demanding clarity on the allegations levelled against her. In her reply, she reportedly sought details on the specific bylaw provisions she was accused of violating and argued that the disputes involving herself, Lakshmi Priya and Tini Tom were personal matters. She also questioned why no action had been taken against Tini Tom despite the complaints raised against him.
The controversy erupted after Ansiba resigned from her post as AMMA’s joint secretary, triggering a fresh round of public disagreements within the organisation. Following her resignation, she levelled serious allegations against Tini Tom, including claims that he had insulted her and used communal slurs against her.
The dispute has since moved beyond the organisation’s internal mechanisms. Ansiba is continuing with a police complaint filed at Kadavanthra Police Station, alleging that Tini Tom made abusive and communal remarks targeting her.
The latest notices indicate that the controversy, which began as a personal dispute between members, has now evolved into a wider organisational crisis, prompting AMMA to invoke disciplinary procedures against senior office-bearers.
