Idukki: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan made a visit to the former CPI-M Idukki district secretary M M Mani at jail Friday afternoon.
Mani, the second accused in the murder of an Indian National Trade Union Congress worker, Anchery Baby, is lodged at the Peerumade sub-jail.
Mani is a politician. He is still to be proven guilty, Achuthanandan said when enquired about the purpose of visit.
The party had renounced what Mani said. The party also ousted him from the post of district secretary. He himself had said what he said was incorrect, Achuthanandan added.
He said that the UDF government was showing two different types of “justice” in the case of Mani and that of Congress leader K Sudhakaran, who is accused of having killed Nalpadi Vasu.
M M Mani was arrested on November 21 in a reopened case of murder of an INTUC worker, Anchery Baby, on November 13, 1982.
Kanikari Kuttan is the first accused and O.G. Madanan, third accused in the case.
The case was reopened after Mani said in a public speech at Manakkad, near Thodupuzha, that his party had a hit list of 13 opponents and three of them had been eliminated. His bail petition was rejected as the public prosecutor argued that the investigation was at an initial stage and if the accused was released on bail, he was likely to influence the investigation.
