Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandhan Wednesday demanded Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb be removed from the post for allegedly overruling the Cabinet decision on 35 Centre-aided schools in Malappuram district.
Achuthanandan alleged that the Minster had overruled the decision of the Cabinet to bring the schools under the government as the Centre had stopped aiding the functioning of them.
The decision of the Education Minister to bring those schools under aided status was for financial benefits. And, that is against the decision of the Cabinet. Nor that is stated on the government website, the CPI-M leader said.
The plan of the Education Minister to amend the Cabinet decision was aimed at corruption as bringing the schools under aided category provides possibility of earning crores of rupees as bribe, he said. VS demanded canceling the aided approval given to those schools.
Achuthannadan also accused the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of bowing down to the needs of the Muslim League.
The opposition Tuesday staged a walkout from the Assembly protesting against the Education Minister who informed the Legislators that the government had decided to provide aided status to 35 schools out of 41 that were started in minority districts with the help of the Central government. Deputy Leader of Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan objected the declaration stating that the Cabinet decision was to run them as government schools. Though the Chief Minister clarified that the government decision has not changed, the Opposition demanded ouster of Abdu Rabb for misinforming the Assembly.
The LDF had staged a walkout from the Kerala Assembly Monday in protest against the UDF government's policy on self-financing private medical colleges which allegedly allowed private managements to exploit students by charging exorbitant fees.
