Gynecologist gets brutally assaulted in Kerala govt hospital

Perinthalmanna: A gynaecologist from the district hospital in Perinthalmanna was brutally attacked by a group of four individuals at her private clinic on Thursday evening, leaving her with serious injuries and requiring intensive care treatment. The victim, Dr Sini Jaleel, is currently admitted to a private hospital in the town, where doctors are assessing the extent of internal injuries.

The assault occurred around 5:30 pm at her clinic on Panchami School Road, near the district hospital. According to accounts provided by the doctor, the attackers gained entry as patients and then locked the consulting room from inside before launching a coordinated assault. Two individuals reportedly restrained her while the others repeatedly beat her, inflicting severe physical harm.

The attack is believed to have been triggered by the recent death of a pregnant woman who had been admitted to the district hospital in critical condition days earlier. The sequence of events has raised serious concerns about retaliatory violence targeting healthcare professionals.

Witnesses and relatives stated that the assailants arrived in disguise, wearing veils and burqas, making identification difficult and raising suspicions about their identities. During the incident, a pregnant staff member present at the clinic was also pushed aside while attempting to assist the doctor.

Following the attack, the injured doctor was initially examined and later shifted to the intensive care unit for closer monitoring. Police from Perinthalmanna recorded her statement and launched an investigation into the incident.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has condemned the assault, with local office bearers describing it as a grave incident. The association convened an emergency meeting to discuss further action, as outrage grows over the safety of medical professionals in the region.
