VK Sasikala moves court against expulsion from AIADMK

Former AIADMK leader and aide of former CM Jayalalitha, VK Sasikala, approached the court today seeking an early hearing in her case challenging her expulsion from the post of General Secretary of AIADMK. Sasikala, who was chosen as General Secretary following the death of former CM J Jayalalitha, was expelled from her position in September 2017 when she was serving jail term for a disproportionate assets case. She was released in the last week of January.

Soon after the decision, Sasikala had filed a civil lawsuit in the Madras High Court alleging that the decision was against the party bylaws as only the General Secretary can convene the AIADMK General Council. Her nephew TTV Dhinakaran, who was removed from his position as Deputy General Secretary, is another petitioner in the case. The respondents include Presidium Chairman E Madhusudanan, Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, former Minister S Semmalai and CM Edappadi Palaniswami.

The case, which has now been moved to the city civil court, is up for hearing on March 15th. The case's outcome is of great prominence ahead of the Assembly polls to be held in April-May.
