Chennai: Income Tax officials searched senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu candidate EV Velu on Thursday, reported NDTV.
The search took place around the same time his party chief MK Stalin campaigned for him in the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections scheduled for April 6. Results to be declared on May 2 as in other three other states of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Union Territory of Pondicherry.
Income Tax officials said the searches were based on "credible inputs of cash movement" during the campaign.
There were searches conducted also at over 10 locations including EV Velu's home in Tiruvannamalai, his constituency where he is seeking re-election.
DMK chief MK Stalin is in Tiruvannamalai to campaign for Mr Velu, a five-time legislator and former state minister for Food. Mr Velu's college, where Mr Stalin stayed last night, was also searched.
