Lulu launches Malabar’s premier shopping destination in Calicut

Calicut: In a significant boost to the commercial development of Malabar, which is gradually rebounding from the recent landslide disaster, LuLu Group India has inaugurated its latest shopping mall in Mankavu, Kozhikode.

This state-of-the-art LuLu Mall is set to enhance the retail experience in northern Kerala by offering a wide range of world-class products under one roof. The mall’s opening marks a crucial step towards revitalizing the local economy, providing both residents and visitors with a global shopping environment in the heart of the city renowned for its rich spice heritage.

Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas presided over the grand inauguration, with Kozhikode Mayor Beena Philip carrying out the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was also graced with the presence of distinguished guests, including P.K. Kunhalikutty MLA, Ahamed Devarkovil MLA, Thottathil Ravindran MLA, BJP State President K. Surendran, Kozhikode Deputy Mayor C.P Musafar Ahamed, Lulu group chairman Yusuffali M.A, and other dignitaries.


"This venture provides a significant boost for the Malabar region and creates employment for over 2,000 people. It exemplifies Yusuffali’s dedication to advancing industrial growth and regional development within the State," Minister Mohammed Riyas stated during the inaugural ceremony. He also highlighted that the new Lulu Mall turned out to become the city's premier tourist destination and affirmed the government's commitment to supporting the group’s future projects. Additionally, the minister noted that the government has already allocated 1300 crore for the development of 13 roads in the city for better infrastructure.

Yusuffali M.A., Chairman of the LuLu Group, expressed his satisfaction at the opening ceremony, stating, "It is everyone's responsibility to ensure better urban planning in Kozhikode, and this new venture represents a significant step forward in the city's modernization." He also noted that a well-facilitated hotel will soon become a reality in the city and emphasized that large-scale projects, similar to those in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, will be undertaken to further the development of Malabar.

Kozhikode Mayor Beena Philip noted that projects like the Lulu Mall are crucial for drawing more IT companies to the city, meeting the needs of the new generation, and boosting the municipality's efforts to improve the Happiness Index.

BJP State President K. Surendran stated that Lulu’s projects have the potential to significantly boost the economic growth of cities like Kozhikode. He highlighted that the success the group has achieved in various parts of India indicates a promising future for Kozhikode as well.

With an investment of 800 crores, the 3.5 lakh-square-foot mall, located in Mankavu, is situated within a vibrant residential area and offers proximity to key local centres. Spanning three floors, the mall features 1.5 lakh sq. ft. LuLu Hypermarket, LuLu Fashion Store, LuLu Connect, and an exclusive children's gaming arena named Funtura. The Hypermarket offers a comprehensive range of products, from every day groceries to gourmet delicacies and fresh farm produce, ensuring a wide range of global products under one roof. The Fashion Store showcases the latest fashion trends with a wide selection of international, national, and regional brands. LuLu Connect will elevate the shopping experience for electronics and home appliances, featuring the latest innovations and best deals. The mall's amenities are further enhanced by a vibrant multi-cuisine food court and an engaging 10,000 sq ft gaming area for children. The food court, with seating for over 500, offers a variety of culinary options from beloved brands including KFC, ChicKing, Pizza Hut, and Baskin Robbins alongside fusion restaurants Flame ‘n’ Go and Starbucks. Boasting an array of nearly 50 national and regional brands spread across its expansive floors, including renowned brands such as Tissot, Skechers, SWA Diamonds, Celio, Levi’s, US Polo, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Poshe Salon and Lens & Frames, LuLu Mall Kozhikode promises unmatched shopping experience and sophistication.

Additionally, the mall is equipped with five self-checkout counters and 1,800 dedicated parking spaces for convenience. The mall will open to the public on September 9th at 11 a.m., featuring exclusive inaugural offers.

Kozhikode is the latest city after Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, and Palakkad where the Lulu group India has its presence. Upcoming projects include new ventures in Kottayam, Tirur, and Perinthalmanna, with significant developments also planned for major cities such as Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Gurugram. The expansion plans are on track across India, with new shopping malls, hypermarkets and food processing centres in various states including Tamilnadu, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir.
