A Bengaluru man was shocked when he discovered a piece of metal in the shawarma he ordered through Swiggy, and was surprised when the food delivery platform offered him a refund of only Rs 50.
He promptly shared his dissatisfaction on Reddit, sharing details of the incident. The customer in his post criticised Swiggy’s indifferent response and also shared screenshots to prove his point.
The Reddit user “sterlingcrises” ordered a chicken shawarma from Absolute Shawarma in Nagawara, Bengaluru.
As he started eating his food, he bit down on something crispy, which he later realised was a piece of metal from the flame grill used to prepare the shawarma.
The man immediately reached out to Swiggy’s support team, requesting a full refund and “a new shawarma delivered to my doorstep without having to place an order through Swiggy again.” He also sought details of the action that would be taken against the restaurant.
Instead of complying with his demands or even apologising for the evident breach of food hygiene standards, the Swiggy customer support executive offered him a refund of a mere Rs 50 on his bill of more than Rs 160.
“As a token of apology, I can get you a refund of Rs 50. Shall I process the same?” asked the Swiggy agent. When the customer refused to accept the token amount offered in the name of an apology, Swiggy said his demands could not be fulfilled.
The furious customer pointed out that he could have “choked and died” and asked, “Is this how you treat your bloody customers?”
In the comments section of his Reddit post, the man explained that he was annoyed not only due to quality control issues but also from Swiggy taking his complaint lightly.
“I still don’t expect Swiggy to ensure good quality, my expectation from Swiggy is what action they can do to prevent such restaurants from even being listed in their platform. These platforms could ban such restaurants, do you really think they are actually doing it?” he asked.
Last month, another Swiggy customer found a live snail in a salad he ordered from a popular restaurant chain in Bengaluru.
