Barely over a hundred days after leaving, the United States, now under president Joe Biden, has decided to rejoin the Paris Climate accord. Biden had already agreed to the reversal of trump's decision to leave back in January when he assumed office.

The Paris accord, which 190 countries are signatories to, aims to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius and prevent a global climate catastrophe. With temperature having risen to 1.2 degrees, experts warn changes need to be made in less than a decade.

"While the news of the return on Friday is said to be more symbolic than substantial, one of the major concerns of US leaving the Accord was the worry of other nations following the largest economy and abandoning the fight against climate change," said Christiana Figueres, the former UN Climate chief.

Joe Biden has promised to put the country at net-zero emissions by 2050.
