Dubai: One of the senior journalists in Russia who called out the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been granted Ukranian citizenship in honour to his exemplary contributions to the nation, particularly in the wartime.

Alexander Nevzorov and his wife Lydia fled Russia when the Moscow set out to nab him on charges of spreading untruth over a report that accused Russia of deliberately bombing a maternity hospital in the city of Mariupol. However, Russia called it a stage provocation from Ukraine side.

"I take the side of the victim. And I am damn grateful to those tormented, desperate, bloodied people of Ukraine who allowed me to take my place among them," said Nevzorov confirming while confirming his Ukraine citizenship.

The journalist has made great influence with his statements through his official YouTube channel, which has around 1.9 million subscribers. Nevzorov, who was also a former MP, gained attention by criminalizing the legislation of the government.

Russia has been trying to arrest Nevzorov for sharing false reports on Russian forces bombing the maternity hospital in Mariupol. The country has denied the accusations, saying that Ukraine is trying to provoke the world through these false deliberations.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky had passed a law that granted citizenship to those tyrannized in Russia for speaking against their political systems.

Alexander and his wife Lydia were granted immediate citizenship following this law after they fled Russia in March.

Nevzorov's name had appeared on Russia's 'registry of wanted' list on May 4.
