Pakistan to lift ban on TikTok

Islamabad: Ten days after imposing a ban, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unlocked the popular video sharing application Tik Tok after the company vowed to "moderate" content according to local law.

The country made the decision after the company assured to "block accounts that were repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality."

Earlier this month, the telecom regulatory body of the country banned the application, citing complaints from the public on "immoral and indecent" content being shared through the platform.

PTA informed it was ready to rethink its decision if the company is ready to accept measures to moderate vulgarity on the platform.

Tik Tok, owned by China's ByteDance, has been facing obstacles from other countries too. India, who had the highest number of Tik Tok users, banned the application in June along with 57 other applications citing threat to security. Tik Tok faced problems in the United States as well.
